A commitment to our senior community
Ponte Vedra Ballet & Dance Company is committed to promoting the art of ballet in the Ponte Vedra and Jacksonville area. Our Senior Citizen Ballet Program was created by PV Ballet owner, Dawn Wolf, in the fall of 2007 in conjunction with the Cultural Center at Ponte Vedra, the Players Senior Community Center and the St. John’s Council on Aging.
This once a week technique class, specifically tailored towards seniors, has been offered free of charge since its creation. The class was originally funded through grants and fundraising events. PV Ballet has continued to offer this program free of charge as a community enrichment program to local and visiting seniors.
The Senior Ballet Program helps maintain and develop balance, muscle strength and grace. “Seniors are at the stage in their lives when they have the time and confidence to try something new. A wonderful comradery has developed between students. It is a time and place to meet and greet each other and enjoy the beauty of classical ballet,” Wolf said. It has become so popular that Wolf helped create a sister program at the YMCA in Carey, NC.
Classes are ongoing and meet every Wednesday at 11:30 am during the school year and on Wednesdays at 2:15pm during the summer months. For more information on this or other programs please contact the studio.
